GAVIN WHITEHOUSE
Divisional Music Director

Gavin Whitehouse was born in Sydney, Australia. The son of Salvation Army officers he grew up in various towns and rural cities in New South Wales, Australia. After high school, he studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, gaining a Bachelor of Music Education degree. While in Sydney, he attended the Blacktown Corps in Western Sydney, where he was commissioned as the Songster Leader in 1997. In the same year he was appointed to the Sydney Staff Songsters.

After graduating, Gavin took up a music teaching position at Arndell Anglican College, teaching classroom music for 5 to 18 year olds, as well as directing the college's bands, choirs and musicals. Gavin was appointed as the Deputy Songster Leader of the Sydney Staff Songsters in January 2005.

In July 2005, Gavin and his wife Jennifer moved to the US, where he took up a position in the Greater New York music department as Assistant Divisional Music Director with responsibility for all vocal and piano programs in the division. In September 2005, he formed the Greater New York Youth Chorus. In 2005, Gavin also joined the newly formed Eastern Territorial Songsters, singing in the tenor section for the first weekend, but then moving to be the group’s pianist. In September 2012, he was appointed the Eastern Territorial Songster Leader.

Gavin has had band and choral works published in International Salvation Army band and vocal journals and in the Eastern Territory's American Band Journal and Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs.

Gavin is excited to be taking on the leadership of Music and Arts in the Pendel division, as well as leadership of the Pendel Brass and Singers.

Gavin and his wife Jennifer are attending the Philadelphia Roxborough corps along with their three children, Charlotte, Avery, and Eden.


Ashlee Clarke
Regional Music Instructor - Central Area

Ashlee Clarke began attending the Salvation Army at a young age, originally participating in youth programs at the Boyertown corps. At age 11, Ashlee began participating in the corps music programs including Singing Company and learning to play the Eb alto horn. She has participated in the Ladore Summer Music programs, eventually working at camp in the Leadership track. Ashlee has been a member of the Pendel Brass since 2010. She currently serves as the bandmaster at the Pottstown corps.

Ashlee is currently attending Arizona State University (online) working on her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She has a passion for connecting government and private social services. Ashlee lives in Pottstown with her husband Will.



Regional Music Director - Delaware Area

 

Kelley Bowin
Regional Music Director - Northwest Area

Kelley Bowin grew up in a Salvationist family in Connecticut. She first played a brass instrument at Camp Connri at the age of 8, and has continued to attend music camps yearly ever since, eventually moving from student to instructor. Kelley graduated from the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree. She has been active in the Salvation Army Southern New England Division, not only as a musician and instructor, but also as the Program Assistant at the Camp Connri Senior Lodge and the Kettle Coordinator for Greater Hartford Area Services. Kelley soldiers at the Williamsport, PA Corps.

Brandon Finnie
Regional Music Director - Lehigh Valley Area

A lifelong Salvationist Brandon started his musical journey on the cornet (and later on Euphonium) at the Asbury Park Corps in New Jersey. From there he would go on to attend music camps at Camp Tecumseh and Star Lake. It was at these camps that Brandon developed a passion for music making and worshipping God through it. His passion for music and working with young people led Brandon to attend Rutgers University where he graduated from in May 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Before joining the Pendel Music Department Brandon worked as the Corps Music Director in Lexington KY.


Brad Kull
Regional Music Director - Northeast Area

Brad is a life-long Salvationist, born into a family active in Salvation Army music. He started playing percussive instruments at age four. Brad has participated in Pendel divisional music programs since age eleven, beginning with the Prep Band and moving on to the Youth Band, and has now been a member of the Pendel Brass since 2005.

Brad graduated high school in 2009 and attended Keystone College for Culinary Arts. He is currently a Business Major with a minor in Human Resources. After college Brad woud like to own and operate a bakery or restaurant and return to college for an MBA.
 


Brad Cain
Creative Arts Director

Brad is the son of Salvation Army Officers, and spent his childhood across the Swoneky, New Jersey, and Pendel Divisions.  He grew up highly involved in the corps and divisional music forces, especially the vocal music programs. 

After being involved in a divisional musical at the age of 7, Brad found his true love – musical theatre.  He performed in high school theatre at both Montclair High School in Montclair, NJ and Thomas Worthington High School, just outside Columbus, OH, from which he graduated.  He then studied at University of Akron where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts.

Following college, Brad served as the Program Assistant and the KrocARTs director for the Camden KROC Corps, developing the theatre and dance programs at the corps level, including the ARTisan Project – a ministry and technique-developing program for artistically gifted high school and college kids in the tri-county area.  Brad has also been a member of TAM Conservatory and CAST, and has served on the staff for Star Lake Musicamp and as a full time staff member at multiple Salvation Army camps

In 2016, Brad graduated with his MFA in Acting, with a concentration in Directing from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA.

 


 

In 2015 & 2016 we said farewell to a number of the Music Department staff. Please pray for them as they pursue new ministries to which God has called them:

  • Lisa Collier (July 2016) - Ministry Development Coordinator, Pendel DHQ
  • Ronda Atwater (August 2016) - School Teacher in Philadelphia
