Music Staff Development Week

July 1-5 2015

Report by Brandon Finnie

This past summer at Camp Ladore our senior and junior staff members were afforded a rare opportunity (due to the International Congress in London) to have a 5-day session of leadership training, worship planning training, ensemble rehearsals, and fellowship.

During the Leadership training, led by Harold Burgmayer, the staff honed their band and choral conducting skills. Each staff member also had the chance to practice leading a quartet or quintet from their seat in the small ensemble. This proved to be an invaluable experience for the staff, as many of them came from a corps where leading the ensemble from a seat in the ensemble is a necessity.

In the worship planning portion of the development week Lisa Collier provided insight into the different components of a worship service and how they function. The staff were then split into groups and tasked with planning a worship service that they presented to the other groups.

A highlight of the week included a trip to West Point to take a tour of the campus and attend the Fourth of July concert presented by the West Point Concert Band and Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  The staff finished the week by providing preliminary music at the Bethany Wesleyan Church in Cherryville.

ills, aiming to be more effective as leaders in our individual corps.
