EDS Command Center
The Salvation Army is preparing to build a new Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Command Center in Philadelphia.
Unfortunately, disasters are becoming more frequent and with more catastrophic impact. The Salvation Army's Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware EDS team is responding to more local emergencies and larger regional and national disaster incidents each year. From natural disasters, such as floods and hurricanes, to catostrophic emergencies including fires and mass transportation accidents (Philadelphia Amtrak train derailment of 2015).
In order to meet this increased need, the department requires additional infrastructure to not only maintain its readiness to support, but to increase its current limited capacity to assist first responders and victims directly.
Plans are now underway for a new center, named the Stephen and Sandra Sheller Emergency Disaster Services Command Center. It will be constructed next door on the campus of our divisional headquarters in Philadelphia.
The new facility will accommodate additional Emergency Disaster Services staff, training space, supplies, and vehicles, while enhancing its ability to coordinate and facilitate disaster responses across central and eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware.
