America is the land of plenty, in many ways.  It is hard to believe that hunger is a reality for 1 in every 6 Americans.

But it’s true. And in the Hazleton area, families and their children are experiencing hardships associated with hunger. When asked "Have there been times in the past twelve months when you did not have enough money to buy food that you or your family needed?" 26.2 percent of Hazleton residents responded “yes.” This is a higher rate than the national average of 23.4 percent.  (The Times-Tribune, Aug 13, 2011)

The Salvation Army in Hazleton provides a host of vital programs and services to the neighboring community, but chief among them is our lunch program that feeds 100-120 people five days a week.

Your help is needed to ensure that we have the tools needed to continue this vital service to our Hazleton neighbors in need.

Kitchen Improvement Project: What’s Needed?
Years of service have taken their toll on the kitchen used to prepare meals for hungry Hazleton residents. Unanticipated water damage and years of wear and tear necessitate a brand new kitchen and equipment, and we humbly seek your help. If we cannot address the physical needs of the existing kitchen, we will be forced to suspend operation. This would result in 500 people each week being turned away when they seek food for themselves and their families.

We Need Your Help
Due to urgent circumstances The Salvation Army is reaching out to our community in the form of an Emergency Campaign to raise $100,000 to fund the complete renovation of the kitchen and surrounding areas.
