Pendel Brass and Singers

The Pendel Brass and Singers of The Salvation Army are a group of musicians from Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware (Pendel). This select group includes nurses, bank employees, ministers, secretaries, music teachers, as well as high school and college students. In addition to voluntarily offering time and musical talents bi-monthly rehearsals and concerts, members devote themselves to weekly rehearsals and services at their local corps community center (church) homes. The group is led by Gavin Whitehouse, Divisional Music Director for the Salvation Army Pendel Division since 2015. Since its establishment in 1964, the mission of the Pendel Brass and Singers has been to communicate the love of God and share the gospel of Jesus Christ through music ministry, fellowship, and service.

The band plays a wide and varied repertoire of stirring marches, sensitive hymn tune settings, classical transcriptions, featured soloists, and more developed festival arrangements. The Singers perform arrangements of familiar hymn and gospel songs, as well as more recent Christian vocal literature.

Each year, the Pendel Brass and Singers perform at least two annual concerts within the Pendel Division. The Pendel Brass and Singers also travel outside the division. Within the Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory they collaborate with corps community centers and churches in musical worship and outreach. The group has also undertaken music and mission tours to USA South and West, Canada, South America, Scandinavia, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, and South Africa.

The Pendel Brass and Singers have produced numerous recordings. Face to Face is a collection of vocal selections that long for our home in heaven. HeartFire conveys the energy of 2 Timothy – “That special gift of ministry you received—keep that ablaze!” Highest Praise draws people to glorify God, affirmed by C.S. Lewis that “our delight [in God] is incomplete until it is expressed.” We Are An Offering features past and present soloists of the group. Prepare the Way of the Risen Lord, calls its listeners to prepare for the second coming of our Lord. Incredible combines the spoken antics of the Territorial Arts Ministry Team (TAM), the Salvation Army Philadelphia Children’s Choir and the Pendel Brass, Singers and soloists in an album designed for children. The most recent recording, We've Come This Far By Faith, is a double CD release with separate brass and choral discs. The selections represent past favorites as well as new publications and features alumni and current soloists.
